On March 26, 2025 Clothing The Gaps launched in Universal Stores across the country! As only the second Aboriginal brand to be stocked by Universal Store—following House of Darwin.
The Clothing The Gaps brand launch is a major milestone for First Nations representation in mainstream retail and is a testament to the growing recognition of Aboriginal businesses, and the power of fashion as a vehicle for storytelling and social change.
Universal Store Group CEO Alice Barbery stated that “this is a proud moment to add another brilliant brand to our portfolio of quality, customer led products. Clothing The Gaps stands for making the world a more united and welcoming place while also designing quality products our customers will love.”
Being stocked with Universal Store is about more than just seeing our products in stores – it’s about amplifying our culture and our message on a national scale.
This is a milestone not just for our business, but for our Community. It’s about showing the world that First Nations voices and businesses belong in mainstream retail.
It’s an opportunity to make space for our stories, to have our culture respected, and to spark important conversations in spaces that were once out of reach. Who would have thought that messages like "Always Was, Always Will Be" would be seen in the biggest shopping precincts across the country?
It’s even more significant at this moment in time, as we head into an election where a simple acknowledgment of Country has become controversial, and the country feels like it's going backwards.
Brands and businesses can help lead the way in creating a more inclusive and respectful future, showing that representation matters and that First Nations culture belongs everywhere.
Yours in the struggle,
